Details: Aundhati Roy is an Indian novelist, activist, and political essayist best known for her novel The God of Small Things, for which she received the 1997 Booker Prize. Seattle Arts & Lectures is proud to present Ms. Roy reading live from and sign copies of her latest nonfiction collection, Field Notes on Democracy: Listening to Grasshoppers. The book examines the dark side of democracy in contemporary India, with the essays looking closely at how religious bigotry, cultural nationalism, and neo-fascism simmer just under the surface of a country that projects itself as the world’s largest democracy.
Seattle Arts & Lectures, a community partner with Seattle NetIP has graciously offered a 15% discount on Parton and General tickets to NetIP members for the event. Patron tickets include front of the house seats, and a post-reading reception with Ms. Roy, wine and nibbles at the Sorrento Hotel.
